City ran out comfortable winners thanks to a Matty Fryatt double in front of over 23,000 fans at The Walkers Stadium as the season officially kicked off.
The new look squad looked very impressive amongst an ordinary looking MK Dons side.
The Foxes got off to a strong and exciting start with former Don Lloyd Dyer, the lively Matty Fryatt as well as new centre-half pairing Michael Morrison and Aleksander Tunchev both going close from set-pieces.
Fryatt was causing a considerable amount of trouble to the Dons defence latching onto Steve Howard's flick-on's, making dummy runs and constantly running himself into the ground.
Fryatt finally got his much deserved break through in the 24th minute when he got onto the end of a Joe Mattock through-ball before being hacked down in the area by Sean O'Hanlon. The referee pointed to the spot and Fryatt picked himself up to send the Keeper the wrong way and to score City's first goal of the campaign.
The busy forward, came close again before Dyer was first to the ball before the goalkeeper, rounding him, but the angle was simply too tight to put the ball in the back of the net. Max Gradel also attempted an ambitious volley but was unsuccessful.
Just before half-time, MK Dons wasted their only notable chance of the match when winger Florian Sturm managed to get past Kerrea Gilbert only for his pull back to be skied by Mark Wright.
Leicester went into the half-time break 1-0 up and were looking like a very confident and attacking minded side.
After the break, City closed the game down and tended to wind down the clock. Matt Oakley and Howard both had chances blocked and pacy Gradel was winning his personal battle with left-back Dean Lewington with ease.
It was then in the 62nd minute that former City hero Paul Dickov was re-introduced at The Walkers to an outstanding roar from the crowd.
City seemed to go quiet towards the latter stages of the match but there was still no lack in chances.
Fryatt yet again came close but failed to finish off Gradel's hard work before Fryatt did find the net second time around on the 82nd minute, with Gradel yet again causing the trouble.
City had now very much wrapped up the match with 8 minutes to go and were comfortably cruising as MK Dons fans begun to flee from the Stadium.
Mattock had one last pop at goal, which went narrowly over before the final whistle, which was received with a well, deserved cheer and round of a applause from the impressed City faithful.
City now host Stockport in the first round of the Carling Cup this Tuesday, with Stockport hoping to build on a solid 1-1 away draw with Huddersfield.
