Leicester City vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Walkers Stadium

12/12/09

Preview: Leicester vs Sheffield Wednesday

STRUGGLING Sheffield Wednesday visit the Walkers Stadium tomorrow in search of their first win in nine matches, against a Leicester side strangely out-of-sorts.

The Owls have found life in the Championship tough so far this season, and currently languish in a disappointing 21st place.

Manager Brian Laws is rumoured to be close to the exit, and City manager Nigel Pearson will be hoping to place the final nail in the former-Scunthorpe manager's coffin.

The match could provide Leicester with the perfect opportunity to brush their recent disappointing spell aside with three points, against a Wednesday side low on confidence after a winless run of eight matches.

The Owls have particularly struggled in front of goal in recent times, and go into tomorrow's match in searcoh of their first goal in five matches.

The last time the two sides met was in Leicester's relegation season of 07/08 at the Walkers Stadium, when Wednesday ran out 3-1 victors on the day. It was a game bearing huge importance for City's survival chances at the time, and ultimately proved fatal for the Foxes.

Vital Quotes:

Leicester defender Jack Hobbs: 'A lot of teams have had a blip this season and maybe it is our time, but it is important to get out of it as quickly as we can and not dwell on it.'

Sheffield Wednesday striker Leon Clarke: 'We'll go there in the right frame of mind and try and win the game. Leicester have lost a couple of games in a row, and in some ways it's hard to play a team who have come off the back of a defeat, whether they have lose heavily or just missed out on victory.'

Leicester City Team News:

Nigel Pearson has no fresh injury worries, as long-term casualties Aleksander Tunchev and Stephen Clemence remain sidelined.

On-loan Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn is suspended, however, so Matty Fryatt will claim his place back in the side.

Pearson may revert to City's early 4-4-2 formation on the back of two dismal performances in a row.

Bruno Berner, Robbie Neilson, Lloyd Dyer, Nicky Adams, Steve Howard and Yann Kermorgant are all pushing for recalls to the first team after being left out of the defeat to Bristol City.

Player to watch: Matty Fryatt

Leicester's top-goalscorer will be hungry for goals after coming off the bench to grab a late consolation midweek.

The striker has found the net 11 times in total for the Foxes so far this season, and will be looking to build on this against struggling Wednesday tomorrow.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News:

Brian Laws has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from, although Wednesday remain without the services of Francis Jeffers and Tommy Miller.

Player to watch: Marcus Tudgay

Wednesday's talisman up front has enjoyed goal-scoring success over City in recent years, his most notable effort a stunning 35 yard strike in the Yorkshire club's 4-1 victory over the Foxes back in 06/07.

Tudgay was linked with a big money move away from Hillsborough in the summer, but a transfer never materialised much to Wednesday fans' relief.

Match Facts & Stats

- Wednesday are looking for a third straight win at the Walkers Stadium.

- The visitors have not suffered four consecutive defeats since the beginning of the 07/08 season.

- Leicester have managed just one win in their last five matches.

- Martyn Waghorn's red card against Bristol City was the team's first of the season.

Match Prediction:

Bad form against bad form, but I have good feelings about this one. Leicester 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday: Swansea (H)
