Newell 'Staying at Luton'

Mike Newell has now officially confirmed on SSN that he is staying with Luton Town and will not be taking the managerial reins at Leicester City at this time.

BBC Sports Three Counties Radio broke the story which Newell confirmed on air just after 12.30 today.

The implication now is that City will persevere with Rob Kelly as caretaker manager until the end of the season or at least until the relegation situation is decided.

With Kelly having already won two successive Championship League matches many fans believe that the upheaval of a new managerial arrival might have a negative effect on City's chances of survival.

Many have said that, because Kelly and his staff knows the players, he is the man best equipped to steer the club to safety.

A statement from City at this time might be timely.

Luton's chairman Bill Tomlins was quick to respond on the Official Luton Town website saying:

"Our Manager Michael Newell has today notified Leicester City FC that his future lies with Luton Town Football Club"

Newell said: "I have made my decision to stay at Luton and I am very happy with that decision. I thank Leicester City for their interest in me and wish them well."

Gutted. Thought he could be the man for next season and beyond. Maybe he still will - wait till summer.. in the meantime Rob Kelly deserves all our support. Up the city
