Snubbed Dublin signs for Celtic

Dion Dublin has had his contract at Leicester City terminated by mutual consent and one can only wonder why he has been apparently ignored in the current situation.

Thirty-six-year-old Dublin has now signed for Celtic on a six months contract with one year option.

Leicester City's caretaker manager Rob Kelly said of Dion: 'He is a terrific individual and a terrific pro. He is very popular and is a very good example for young players.'

And yet, when the management changes were made post-Levein there was no mention of any new role being offered to the former England man and club's most senior professional.

Dublin thanked Leicester for helping his contract get-out go smoothly and stressed that he wanted to join Celtic regardless of who was appointed City manager.

But was that decision also accelerated by the fact he appeared to have no great future at Leicester?

It could, of course be that Dublin was offered a position of some kind but turned it down. If, so the club have never mentioned it. If not what a wanton waste of ability, experience and knowledge of the players.

Certainly the timing of Dublin's move seems remarkably coincidental and especially following so soon after a reported altercation with Craig Levein which did nothing for his future playing chances under that regime.

Question is, did he sort out his future after that incident or after realising that nothing was on the cards in the new City era.

One day a book will doubtless tell all. It will make an interesting chapter, no doubt.
