'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'I've only been here 8 days'

Leicester slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Charlton yesterday, their first defeat since the opening day match at home to Blackpool.

However, too many draws in between and only one win has meant that Leicester lie in 21st place, with just 6 points from as many games.

This was not the start to the season we were hoping for following the arrival of Milan Mandaric and a squadful of new signings.

Here we examine the aftermath of the defeat with quotes from the manager, papers and mose importantly you the fans.

The Manager

This was Gary Megson's first full league game in charge, having not picked the side for the QPR match.

He gave a first start to Matty Fryatt, who partnered Carl Cort and brought in James Chambers to replace the injured Wesolowski.

With no recognised wingers and a total of 6 defenders on the field, Megson decided to tell the offical site after the game

'We had many defensive players in positions that they are not used to.'

Megson then attempted to play down his responsibility for the defeat during a post-match interview saying

'I've only been here eight days, but the team has had three seasons of relegation struggles and hadn't started well when I got here.'

Three previously poor seasons maybe, but this is a new team with many new players and a very abitious new chairman.

Talking of new players, just 4 new signings started the game, one of those was on loan goalkeeper Fulop. Where are Hellings, Kaebi, Ferreria, Nielsen......? One to pose Mandaric on Thursday perhaps.

The Papers

The papers were largely in agreement about the ease at which Charlton took the points, here are some quotes.

The Independant decribed a 'comfortable 2-0 win over Leicester City, whose defence never got to grips with Chris Iwelumo'

While The Times went further still saying 'Charlton know they won`t have many easier days than this.'

I'll stop there!

The Fans

Finally and most importantly we come to the fans, that's what this site is all about!

Philofox came back from the game and left his post-match thoughts on our forum.

Sorry to start with a rant but I just want to register my dismay at another facking rubbish performance away at Charlton. Supporting LCFC is bad mine (and yours!) health, my blood is literally boiling at yet another inept, crap, uninspired performance. Good start Megson, tell your squad (in public) that they are all crap, that'll motivate them!!!!!

Thanks for that Philofox!

The MotM poll has seen a little interest, maybe I should add a no-one option if you can't bring yourself to vote for one of the players. The halftime subs Kishishev and N'Gotty are claiming the majority of the votes at the moment. I'll leave that up for a while longer. There is also a poll on whether you think it's right to sing for former manager Martin Allen following Milan's comments after the Forest tie. That poll can be found here

It's not too late to leave your thoughts on the game, you can use either the comments box or the forum.

Not too much response on the MotM poll yet, the halftime subs look to be getting the majority at the moment. I'll leave it on a bit longer. There's also a poll about whether it was right to sing for Martin Allen at the Forest match, click here to vote for that one as well.

So the highlight of the weekend was Derby letting in 5 away from home again this season, maybe things aren't so bad.

Villa (A) next in the Cup on Wednesday followed by
Stoke (H) on Saturday in the Championship.

Don't forget the meeting on Thursday with Milan, full details will be on this site for those that can't make it.

Take care!

Megson seems keen to play down expectations so far in his interviews. Is he too negative or being realistic. I was hoping for a better season following the summer activity but so far that doesn't appear to be the case
