Cup and Kelly records inspire

There are tasty pointers to encourage Leicester City in believing they can beat Southampton in Saturday's FA Cup Fourth Round clash at the Walkers. Indeed they've never lost at home to Saints in the Cup

Although Southampton lead in all-time head-to-head match statistics against Leicester, it is City who have the better record in the FA Cup and in cup matches generally.

City have won three and drawn one of the five FA Cup games between the clubs and they also won the only League Cup encounter, by 3-2 in 1969/70.

Leicester won the last FA cup clash, by 3-1 at Filbert Street in 1980-81, won 4-2 in the halcyon days of the 60's when, in 1968/69 they came through at home after a 1-1 draw in Southampton.

Their other victory was in the January 1911 when the margin was, again 3-1, and Leicester lost the first ever FA cup tie against the Saints by 2-1 at Southampton in 1898.

So, they have never lost any home cuptie against the seasiders

Rob Kelly also has a record that offers cause for optimism. He has been a caretaker manager before, when he took over at Wolves after the sacking of Graham Turner.

He took charge of three games, drawing the first and winning the other two.
