Fans on Foxestalk recently conducted a poll which showed they would far rather have centre-back McCarthy as skipper than current club captain Danny Tiatto. They have now renewed that call.
And, not just because Tiatto hardly ever plays and has missed two thirds of the matches so far this season either because of injury, suspension or because he's simply not been picked.
No, fans noticed that the old Leicester City fighting spirit was evident again against Tottenham and was never more epitomised than when Irishman McCarthy launched his fearsome but fair tackle on newly arrived substitute Jermaine Defoe in front of West Stand fans as the game began to climax.
Although still young, McCarthy is not afraid to scream at anyone and everyone if he feels it necessary and, whatever the level of his own performance on the day, he never gives less than 100% to the cause.
Joey Gudjonsson is in the same mould and would also be a popular choice for many but he is close to the end of his contract and there is speculation that he might move on shortly.
McCarthy therefore stands in pole position as the man most fans want as skipper and if Sunday's performance was an example there would never be any problem with the team's attitude and unity of spirit if he was.
Over to you, Craig.
