Puel Talks Slimani Again
Leicester City manager Claude Puel has been tasked about the future of striker Islam Slimani once more, and he's again admitted the player may leave to secure greater game time.
Our record signing £29million striker is reportedly wanted by Besiktas and talks are on going over the 29 year old Algerian.
With Puel talking previously about the need to offload at least one of our forwards given the numbers we carry, Slimani has been been the favoured option in the press, followed by Leo Ulloa but with only one Premier League start since September, and five goals across all competitions, the French gaffer admits Slimani himself may favour a switch to play more regularly.
Speaking to Sky Sports Puel explained.
'For Slimani, I cannot give all the ties about an individual player. I repeat, that since the beginning, that we have a lot of strikers. We need to make a good balance for the team, to give game time for all the players. We will see if some players can win some game time at other clubs but we have to discuss with these players.'
With continuing speculation linking Riyad Mahrez to Liverpool and Arsenal, Puel also took the opportunity to restate that he will be going nowhere this window, that he's happy at the club and that he again feels come the summer he could be worth £100million given recent transfer fees.
'For Mahrez, there is nothing new to say about Riyad. It's always the same thing, always the same response. I'm happy with him, he's enjoying his football and he's enjoying playing with his team-mates - this is the most important thing. We can see his performance in games; he's a very good player and he likes his club and team-mates. It's a good feeling for him.'
Asked about potential incomings this month, Puel said although we are active, nothing is close to be done.
'No, we are not close for the moment to signing other players. I think we work normally in this transfer window and it's important to keep our focus about our transfer window. I think it's important to keep this squad because it's fantastic and it has a positive attitude. Of course if we can improve the squad we will sign a player but for the moment it's not like this.'
