Attacking Options Delight Shakespeare

Attacking Options Delight Shakespeare

Manager Craig Shakespeare has said he's delighted with the attacking options we have available to Leicester as we go into the game against Brighton this weekend.

Having opened our campaign with a four three defeat to Arsenal, Shakespeare has already spoken of the number of positives he could take from that and Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy both scoring were certainly two of those positives.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury as he met with the media yesterday to hold his pre Brighton press conference, Shakespeare - at least here - focused in on the options available to him.

Speaking about Vardy, Shakespeare said.

'I thought all pre-season he has looked sharp and fit. We know all his attributes. He can be a nuisance for defenders and we encourage him to do that and we encourage our midfield players to play balls in behind and he will be a threat. He went to Arsenal and got the goals his performance deserved.'

Moving onto Okazaki the gaffer added.

'I have spoken before about Shinji`s team spirit and work rate. We have seen that and I am very pleased with his overall performance as well. One of his main assets is his team work and team ethic. Someone told me he said he didn`t fee he ran enough last season? I think he did. It is nice to know a player feels he can do more.'

With Islam Slimani and Leo Ulloa remaining as options upfront as well, at least so far this transfer window, we can now factor in Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho, but Shakespeare confirmed he wouldn't rush the 20 year old.

'What I have seen so far I am really impressed with. I don`t want to put too much pressure on him because he is a young lad but I like his character and just importantly his quality of play has been there for all to see. Hopefully, in 12 months we will be sitting here and he has got a hat full of goals and he has been a team player. I think he is versatile to do that (play out wide). He has done that at Man City. He is capable of that.'
