Iborra Joins Drinkwater On Sidelines - Chelsea Still Linked

Iborra Joins Drinkwater On Sidelines - Chelsea Still Linked

Midfielder Danny Drinkwater will be joined by Vicente Iborra on the sidelines for the opening day Premier League action against Arsenal.

Drinkwater has already been ruled out after picking up a thigh injury but with ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea this summer, manager Craig Shakespeare said simply that on that subject we aren't interested in selling our best players, warning Chelsea off from making a move.

Speaking to the Daily Mail as he met with the media today, Shakey explained that whilst Riyad Mahrez's situation was depending on a suitable bid, he was not encouraging any in Drinkwater's direction.

It's been said Chelsea are preparing a £30million offer for the 27 year old England international.

'We don`t want to be a selling club, we want to add to it. We don`t want to sell our best players. The speculation is always going to be out there at this time of year. You know when you have good players there might be an interest in them. You have to deal with reality but also keep a calmness about you as well.'

The Leicester Mercury carried the report on Iborra's injury and they confirmed he won't make his Premier League debut this Friday as he's picked up a groin strain in training.

Shakespeare explained about the current injury situation.

'Danny Drinkwater has a thigh injury, which should hopefully only be another week. Vicente Iborra picked up a groin strain the other day in training, so he will miss Friday`s game. But on a positive note, Kelechi trained fully after his little knock against Borussia Monchengladbach.'

'And Robert Huth is back in full training, which is a real plus for us because we thought Robert would be out more time, but he`s joined in and he will get some game-time with the under-23s on Monday, which is well ahead of schedule. He`s raring to go. Papy Mendy is back training. We get one or two back, we lose one or two - that`s the way the world is at the moment in terms of the injuries.'
