James Delighted With Pre Season Work
Midfielder Matty James has said he has no complaints about a tough and intense pre season camp in Austria as simply put he's just pleased to be involved again.
Having recovered last season from a very lengthy lay off with injury, the second half of the 2016/17 campaign saw him head to Barnsley where he took in 17 starts and one substitute appearance and even returned one goal for the side.
Having headed back to Leicester at the end of that loan spell, he's now back with the lads in pre season training properly and he's relishing the chance of working his way into Craig Shakespeare's plans once again.
Speaking to lcfc.com James explained that he had been tough, but enjoyable.
'It`s been really tough so far. The training sessions have been really hard with a good intensity but enjoyable at the same time. It is really warm but we`re getting a sweat on and it's enjoyable. I`ve missed being with the boys and it`s a great bunch of lads. I`m enjoying every minute of it.'
With pre season generally associated with prolonged fitness and conditioning work, James said it had been nice to get the balls out so quickly this year as obviously that lifts the players and allows them to more enjoy the work, even though they continue to be mixed with fitness and conditioning work.
'There`s nothing better than getting the football out. None of us will say we enjoy the running but it`s got to be done in pre-season. We`re glad the balls are out and we`re playing at a good tempo.'
The 25 year old also admitted that competition even at this early stage of the summer had been clear to see within the group, and that can only aide Leicester going forward into the season itself.
'From day one, it`s been a competitive group. Everybody wants to win and I think it brings the sessions on quicker. The ball gets moved quicker and the intensity is higher. It`s a good competitive streak between the lads.'
