No Mahrez Bids So Knuckle Down

No Mahrez Bids So Knuckle Down

Manager Craig Shakespeare has confirmed that despite the speculation linking Riyad Mahrez with a move to Arsenal in particular, Leicester City have not received an offer.

With the media more than ramping this transfer up based on nothing but speculation and rehash after rehash, Shakespeare told Sky Sports that Leicester have received zero offers for the Algerian.

Shakespeare also sent a warning to Mahrez saying he expected him to be 'fully committed' to the club and the contract he signed, and although he's disappointed he went public with his desire to leave with his May statement as covered, he now expects the player to get his head right because no deal can be done whilst nobody makes an offer.

'I'm not worried. Can it be disappointing when a player comes out publically? Yes. I think we have to look what is behind that as well, in terms of advice. We have to understand Riyad's concerns but while he is contracted to the football club, and while we've had no bids for him, which we haven't, he has to be professional and we have to be professional. He has to be fully committed here and I expect him to do that.'

Shakespeare remains calm about the prospect of a bid finally coming in for the player though because ultimately it has to be acceptable to Leicester City first and foremost.

'We'd have to consider it. But we don't know the value and we don't know the bid so until a bid comes in again it's not worth thinking about.'

Shakespeare was also incredibly clear when it came to Mahrez's disappointment and any attitude that came from that if a deal doesn't come off this summer.

'He has to be professional. We have to be professional with him. But more importantly he has to be committed and I think he has to show supporters, staff and players that. If he's selected, he has to perform and, if he doesn't show commitment, he won't play. He's got a contract with us, so he has to understand that.'
