Shakespeare Holds Atletico Madrid Hopes

Shakespeare Holds Atletico Madrid Hopes

Manager Craig Shakespeare has called on the Leicester City players to once again rise to the occasion when we host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter finals.

Having lost the first leg one nil at their Vicente Calderon with a first half Antoine Griezmann penalty, Shakespeare knows that with the home fans behind us the tie is far from over.

We will however be without Robert Huth who serves a suspension and Wes Morgan will continue to be a doubt with his injury issue.

Speaking to lcfc.com in his post game press conference, Shakey explained.

'We are still alive and want to stay in it. We still have a challenge ahead against a very good team. We know it is bound to be a very difficult return match, but we have very good record at King Power Stadium. Our fans enjoy these nights, but we have to create more chances and attack more than we did tonight. We are aware of what we need to do for the second-leg.'

Shakespeare went on to say.

'There are always moments in any game in terms of momentum. We knew it would be a frantic start, but grew in game. We had to change at half time because Griezmann getting between the lines, but in terms of endeavour, I thought we were exceptional. Atletico are a very good team, their work ethic is exceptional. We know we have to be more open because we need a goal and one of their pluses is their ability on the counter-attack.'

With Huth picking up his third yellow card of the campaign and now serving a suspension for the second leg, he ended by saying.

'It`s a blow. We have a few on yellows, we knew it was a tightrope. Robert is a very committed player. There is some hope with Morgan. He has been out on the grass for the last few days and we hope he will be all right. But honestly it is touch and go and we`ll have to look at team shape over the next few days.'
