Through the Mill

Through the Mill

Predictions of the Leicester City versus Millwall match at the Walkers today result have been pretty guarded, with many fans believing a draw will be as good as it gets but the past history is more encouraging.

The teams, according to City's official website, have played 13 times at Leicester and Millwall have only won once, at Filbert Street, when Teddy Sherington netted twice in a 2-1 win in 1991.

Otherwise it is nine wins for City and three draws with City clinching a 3-1 win in the most recent clash at the Walkers last season, an occasion when Richard Stearman grabbed his first goal for City, the others coming from David Connolly and Mark DeVries. It was De Vries's first goal for City too.

City are unbeaten in their last six home games against Millwall
(uncluding five sucessive victories) and they gained their biggest win over the Londoners by 5-0 in 1946/47 when George Dewis, my old trainer at City in the 60's, scored a hat-trick. That was the first clash between the two clubs at Filbert Street.

The first fixture was a 1934 FA Cup match at The Den in 1934 which City won 6-3 and altogether the clubs have met 30 times.

Surprisingly no City player has ever made his debut against Millwall but Steve Claridge, Andrew Impey, Dion Dublin, Kasey Keller, Paul Kerr, Lawrie Madden, Stefan Moore, David Oldfield, Keith Weller and Dennis Wise played for both clubs.
