James Signs New Four Year Deal

Matty James has today pledged his future to Leicester City by signing a new four year deal with the club.

The 22 year old midfielder played a huge part in our title and promotion winning successes of last season, striking up a fantastic partnership with also renewed Danny Drinkwater, and as he enters into his third year at the King Power Stadium, he has now committed his future until the summer of 2018.

Having made 39 appearances all season, and picking up the Young Player of the Year Award for his performances, he told lcfc.com after signing his deal that he couldn't have been more pleased.

'I'm absolutely buzzing, I can't think of any other way to describe it. Heading into the Premier League, after the unbelievable season we've just had - to sign a four year deal with this club is just fantastic.'

James goes on to say that for any club to offer such a long contract really is a boost because it shows how much you are valued as a player for your contribution, and especially for Leicester with our ambitions to be prepared to offer such an extended deal as this will be James' first test in the top flight, he knows is a big thing.

'The club's got an exciting future and I'm delighted that I'm going to be part of it.'

Manager Nigel Pearson said following the signing of the new deal.

'Matty has contributed an enormous amount of the group during the last two seasons, both with his performances on the pitch and with what he brings to the group off it. Nobody recognises his value to the squad more than his team mates.'

Pearson says that Leicester certainly did their due diligence on the midfielder before making the move for him, and they had him watched lots of times and he was always confident that when he found his feet and found his confidence he was more than capable of playing a big part in the squad, playing regularly and showing that consistency in performance that is necessary.

'He's a great lad, he works hard at his game and he's only just about to turn 23, so he clearly has time to improve even further.'
