Leicester Sign Matthew Upson

Leicester Sign Matthew Upson

Nigel Pearson has added former England defender Matt Upson to the side ahead of our return to the Premier League.

The 35 year old was with Brighton, helping them to successive play off battles in his time with them, and with 22 England caps and 447 career appearances, he will certainly be asset in defence as we move forward.

His contract expires at Brighton this summer, and he will join us on a one year contract on July 1st.

Speaking to lcfc.com our second capture of the summer so far explained that getting another shot at the Premier League made it an easy decision to join us and he leaves Brighton as their Player of the Year.

'I'm really delighted, it's a great opportunity and something I'm very grateful for. I obviously played against Leicester last season and I liked the way they played and the intensity that they had. It's an opportunity to play in the Premier League again, which I have been striving to do since I've been in the Championship. I enjoyed last season and had a great time at Brighton, but it's too good an opportunity to turn down.'

Upson goes on to say that manager Nigel Pearson was very impressive when they spoke, describing him as being 'very straight' with players so he joins us knowing exactly what is wanted from him and he feels he's going to really enjoy his time at the King Power Stadium.
