40 Year Old Phillips Signs Short Deal

Leicester have today announced that striker Kevin Phillips has put pen to paper on a short term deal until the end of the season.

The 40 year old has huge experience in the game, and once his registration comes through from the Football League, he will be handed the No 28 shirt and should be eligible for contention for this weekends games against Leeds United.

Speaking to lcfc.com after signing the paperwork, manager Nigel Pearson said.

'The opportunity to sign a player of Kevin's experience and know how doesn't come along too often so I'm delighted that we've been able to add him to our squad. He's a player I know well, a fantastic professional with multiple promotions to his name and he will bring some great qualities to the group, both on and off the pitch.'

After departing Crystal Palace by mutual consent so he could improve his chances of game time prior to presumably hanging up his boots next summer, he joins us as a free agent.

In his long career Phillips has played for a host of clubs, many in the top flight of football, starting with Watford, Sunderland, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham, Blackpool and most recently Crystal Palace and has notched up 516 starting appearances alone, not including the additional 137 appearances from the bench. In that time he has racked up a more than creditable 285 goals.

For Palace this season he has made five appearances, but has not found the net, although it must be said all of his appearances were from the bench.

He should be a great addition for the younger players, and should be capable of helping adjust games where needed with his experience.
