'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We're Right Back In It

Manager Nigel Pearson has said we are right back in the mix following Jamie Vardy's winning striker against Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

His stunning goal in the first half broke the deadlock in the game shortly before half time, and it proved to be enough for all three points after a very spirited resilience defensively saw us keep it tight at the back and take another clean sheet for the season.

Speaking to lcfc.com following the completion of 90 minutes, Pearson was obviously delighted with our discipline on the day and he feels we more than got what we deserved from the match.

'We did well and it was needed. From here three points is a good return because they're a good side. We created good opportunities and they will feel they should have got something out of the game, but we're delighted. It puts us back in the hunt for the top spots.'

After recent disappointments in the league, and of course the Manchester City encounter, this was a fantastic way to put that behind us, and even though the gaffer would've liked us to have added a second, he was more delighted with the clean sheet again and the way we played the overall game and the work the players put in.

'We've felt at times this season we've not come out of those games with what we deserved and it's nice to start the Christmas period with an important win.'

He adds tellingly as well, that whilst he understands that over the course of an entire season players levels will fluctuate and some will be on form, when others aren't, but recently he feels we really have been punished for errors and when that happens he and the team are disappointed, but he feels that shows the level of standards not only does he expect from the boys, but also the standards they expect from their colleagues and themselves, so in some ways that is good to see for him but he knows we have to be wary about being too overly critical at points, and hopefully this win will be the reward the players wanted and they will really enjoy it for the moment and have that relief.

One thing he says he's rarely disappointed with is how the players work hard and the effort they put in on the pitch, but the resilience in this game was really a source of pride and pleasure for him and he hopes the fans and players feel the same.
