Youngsters In Soccer Sevens Glory

Youngsters In Soccer Sevens Glory

Our youngsters secured the Soccer Sevens Shield against Chelsea after narrowly losing to Aston Villa in the main competition.

Academy Director John Rudkin told lcfc.com he was proud of the lads for their effort and commitment and he believes taking the Shield was a terrific end to a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

'It was a terrific end to what really has been an outstanding tournament. The lads deserve a lot of credit for the way they have performed throughout the weekend. Adapting to the seven a side concept and learning how to play in temperatures of up to 37 degrees has been a real challenge. The defeat to Villa was our first loss of the competition and that in itself proved a difficult experience. In extra time the games were reduced to four a side, which was another amazing concept. The lads learnt from it, which helped us when the Shield final got to the same stage and we came out on top.'
