'If It's Football, It's Vital'

England Will Be Schlupping Up Jeff

That's the reaction from Sven-Goran Eriksson last night after Jeff Schlupp bagged a hattrick to send us through to the second round of the Carling Cup.

Speaking to lcfc.com Eriksson couldn't have had more pride or pleasure in Schlupp's performance against Rotherham.

You can understand why when the Foxes website informs you that Schlupp is the first player since 1945 to hit a debut hattrick - and he's only 18!

'He will be a very good player for us. I am not sure he is ready to play 45 games yet, we shouldn't expect that, but he will play games for us.'

Sven rightly is protecting the German youth international and bringing him on slowly, but the temptation after tonight will be great to put him in for our next game.

'It was an absolutely amazing performance from him, I saw him last season in training and youth games and I could see he is a fantastic talent. This season he is even stronger.'

Remember that we actually had a match tonight, Sven said.

'I told the players at half time we would lose this game if we weren't careful. We didn't want to go out so early. The second half was different class and we dominated. We were confident and didn't panic, we kept on playing.'

With expectations so high, it will be easy to over hype bad days at the office. Last night showed the team won't let their heads drop on days like that, and whilst we won't always come out with the win, it sure is nice to know the team will dig in and battle back.

On paper we shouldn't be going behind...the reaction to going behind tells us a lot about the spirit within the camp and the desire of the players.
