Abe determined despite earthquake

Leicester's Japanese international Yuki Abe has admitted his determination to carry on playing despite the tragic earthquake to hit his home nation.

Abe's family, including his wife and daughter, still live in Japan, but remained safe much to the midfielder's relief.

"Obviously it was hard to hear what happened in Japan but I had to switch my mind on to the game, and I was hoping for a win to provide some good news," Abe said.

"I was determined to play. Everyone in the squad and the coaching staff were concerned for me but I knew I had to give everything and try not to show my concern in my performance."

Abe's home town of Ichikawa, around 20 miles away from Tokyo, was damaged significantly despite being over 300 kilometres from the earthquake's epicentre.

The 29-year-old joined the Foxes from Urawa Red Diamonds in the summer, and has since gone onto establish himself as a firm favourite among the Foxes faithful just six months into his tenure.
