Yakubu: King is our Lampard

Yakubu has tipped midfielder Andy King as a young heir to the throne once held by Frank Lampard.

The Everton loanee has been hugely impressed with King's contribution to the campaign since making the temporary switch from Goodison Park, insisting King is City's very own Lampard.

"He is a really good player who is playing like Frank Lampard in the way he moves from the midfield to the attack and scores goals from all over," the Nigeria international said.

"He has been really great for us and it is good to have more than one player scoring goals."

King has been in phenomenal form for the Foxes this season, hitting 13 goals in the Championship to help propel City towards the play-off positions.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has been equally impressed by the Welsh international's showings, handing the 22-year-old the captaincy in the regular absences of club captain Matt Oakley.

And four strikes in his last three league fixtures has prompted Yakubu to heap praise on the youngster.

"I see him every week playing and training and he is getting better with every game," said 28-year-old Yakubu.

"I'm sure he can play in the Premier League as you can see the quality he has."

Leicester are thought to be in contract negotiations with the midfielder, the result of which could prove music to the ears of City fans soon enough.
