Eriksson resigned to Abe loss

Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted he would be surprised to have the services of midfielder Yuki Abe in the new year.

Abe looks set to be selected by Japan for the Asian Cup in Qatar, which runs between 7th-29th January.

"I will be very surprised if he is not selected for the national team. We will lose him, almost for sure," Eriksson told the Leicester Mercury.

"It has happened to me as a manager in the past with African players and we just have to deal with it, it is out of our hands."

Leicester have their FA Cup third round clash against Manchester City during the month, as well as league games against Hull, Swansea, Preston and Millwall.

Abe is settling into the English game following his summer move from Japanese side Uwara Red Diamonds, and is steadily beginning to impress both fans and team mates alike.
