Vassell poised for Foxes switch

Vassell poised for Foxes switch

Former England striker Darius Vassell is set to complete his move to Leicester shortly.

The 30-year-old undertook a medical earlier this afternoon and is poised to put the finishing touches to a permanent deal tomorrow.

Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson knowns Vassell well from his time in English football, handing the striker his England debut in 2002 whilst in charge of the national side.

Eriksson also managed Vassell during his short spell at Manchester City before his sharp fall down the Eastlands pecking order.

Vassell has most recently spent time abroad with Turkish Süper Lig outfit Ankaragücü, but endured a difficult time away from home and eventually parted company with the club in the summer.

City manager Eriksson is keen to bolster a forward line which has been found wanting on numerous occasions this season, and is looking to Vassell to help fire his Foxes side up the table.

The striker is around two weeks away from match fitness according to reports, and will see Leicester as the ideal way to resurrect his stuttering career.
