'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wellens: I can't wait for Sven

Leicester midfielder Richie Wellens has admitted his excitement over the arrival of new manager Sven Goran-Eriksson.

Wellens lavished praise on the former-England manager, who signed a two-year deal to become the new Foxes manager over the weekend.

'Sven's a top-class manager and has got one of the highest profiles in world football,' Wellens said.

'He managed England and has massive experience so these are very exciting times for Leicester City.'

The midfielder did reveal his sympathy for the recently departed Paulo Sousa however, conceding that his premature exit was a shock to the dressing room.

'We were shocked over Paulo.

'He was supposed to have a long-term plan for the club but in the end only lasted nine games.

'But things were not right and football is a results-driven business.'

Wellens added: 'We feel for Paulo, to go after such a short time seems very harsh. But we have to respect Milan's decision.

'He's had success at clubs like Portsmouth and we've got to trust him. He decided to act before it was too late.'

Wellens and the rest of the squad travel to Thailand this week for a friendly match over the weekend, and will face Nigel Pearson's Hull city in Sven Goran-Eriksson's first match in charge.
