'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sousa encouraged by transfer backing

The new owners of Leicester City have promised to back manager Paulo Sousa in the transfer window this summer.

Asian Football Investments - a Thai-lead consortium - took over the club last week and have already outlined their support for Sousa in his role as manager.

Despite initial discussions with the Rakriaksorns, Sousa is yet to discover just how much he will have available to him to strengthen City's squad before the transfer window closes.

But the Portuguese manager has revealed his encouragement at the early developments with the new ownership.

'It changes things, not just for me but for everyone, because it is no good for anyone to have doubts,' he said.

'We understand it can take time because it involves people and money.

'Finally, it has been done and it will be better for everyone because we know now what can be done in the future. Now we have to build a plan, both short and medium term.

'I spoke to them and they have told me they will support me.

'I don't know yet what kind of budget I will have but I know they have guaranteed to support me in having some extra players to the squad and to add some different quality to the squad than we have already, so we are stronger as a squad and a club.

'I have sat down with them already. When I met Milan, he was open and he told me what could happen.

'He told me about the people and they would agree to support me. They said, if they take on the club, they will support me as manager.

'When they concluded the deal, I had already spoken to them and they have guaranteed me all the support to help me to improve this club.'

So far only Moreno has commanded a fee from the club's six signings this summer, but that could all change soon with just over two weeks of the summer transfer window still remaining.

With promotion still the goal in the Championship this year Sousa will welcome any backing he can get from the new owners as he continues to bolster his ambitious squad in the coming month.

It seats uneasy with me when clubs are bought by big investors, but what the hell - if others can flash the cash then we might aswell join them!
