Foxes miss out on Novo

Leicester have missed out on their first transfer target of the summer in striker Nacho Novo, Vital Leicester understands.

Novo was on Nigel Pearson's radar this summer, but the striker has instead opted for a move back home to his native Spain with Sporting Gijon.

The 31-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Scottish champions Rangers after six years with the club, after a season of bit-part appearances for Walter Smith's side.

The news will come as a blow to Leicester manager Nigel Pearson who had hoped to secure the services of the Spaniard, according to sources close to the club.

Instead his attentions will now turn elsewhere, with several names already linked for the coming transfer window.

Ipswich centre back Alex Bruce looks set for a permanent switch to the Walkers following a loan spell last year after being deemed surplus to requirements at Portman Road.

Meanwhile Pearson is also hoping to secure the services of another loanee from last season, Jay Spearing, according to reports.

Another season long loan is rumoured to be in the club's best interest, and the Leicester manager will hope to tie up the services of the Liverpool youngster once more.
