Doing the maths

Another weekend brings yet another important match, and one that could well seal a potential play-off place should results go in our favour.

Well, it's actually in our own hands as it has been for much of the season, only this time a win really would guarantee our status as Championship play-off contenders.

Saturday 24th April:

Preston North End vs LEICESTER CITY

Sheffield United vs SWANSEA

Peterborough United vs BLACKPOOL

So, for the remaining three hopefuls this weekend throws up three away ties, each with their own level of difficulty.

Naturally you would expect in-form Blackpool to walk away with all three points from London Road providing the already-relegated side don't pull a rabbit out the hat. Stranger things have happened.

Perhaps eyes will be kept closer on the battle at Bramall Lane however, as defeat for Swansea would leave the Foxes needing only a point from a tricky trip to Deepdale.

In short, to guarantee our spot in the play-offs the following scenarios can occur:

1. We win - Three points and it's guaranteed, whatever happens elsewhere.

2. Blackpool lose - Defeat at London Road would keep Ian Holloway's men four points behind with just one match to play.

3. Swansea lose and we draw - Assuming there will be no dramatic goal-infested disasters on the final day, goal difference is well in our favour here.

4. Blackpool and ourselves both draw - Simple.

So here's to another weekend of nail-biting action that could either go spectacularly to plan or completely fall apart to set up a stomach-wrenching final day. Either way alcohol may be required...
