Mandaric: Pearson 'ready to sign'

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric has assured fans of the club that a new contract for manager Nigel Pearson will be arranged in due course.

Pearson signed a two-year deal in June 2008 with the option of a third year, but Mandaric is expected to offer the City boss an improved deal to secure his man.

Mandaric told BBC Sport: 'I am always confident Nigel will not leave. As for as the legality of the deal, we are working on that as well.

'And before the season is finished - well before the season is finished; I'd say the next 30 days or so - we will sort it out.'

Pearson has been a revelation at the Walkers Stadium since joining the club after relegation to League One in the 07/08 season, guiding the Foxes to the league title and promotion back to the Championship in his first season.

And now, with City flying high in the Championship play-off zone, Mandaric is keen to tie up the services of his man to fend off any potential interest from the bigger fish.

'He's here to stay at least as long as I'm here, so there is no problem with Nigel's contract.

'We are in contact, we have dialogue - it is really a rolling contract so when the year is finished there is another year coming.

'We are trying to do something more but Nigel is not concerned - it is not an issue.

'He says: 'Milan, I look you in the eye - I'm going to go nowhere'.'

Pearson takes his Leicester side to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, in search of another three points to keep the play-off dream alive.
