Waghorn extends stay

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has tied up the services of 19-year-old Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn until the end of the season.

Waghorn has been with Pearson's Foxes since August, and has become a regular fixture in the Leicester starting lineup in recent months.

Since scoring on his debut as a second half substitute against Swansea on the opening day of the season, Waghorn has gone on to find the net a further four times to help propel City up the table into a playoff place.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Waghorn said: 'I've loved it. As soon as I came here I felt welcome and scoring on my debut against Swansea in the first match of the season helped me massively.'

It had been reported at the beginning of the month that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce may have wanted his young starlet back to act as cover for Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones, but those rumours were quashed almost instantly by Bruce himself.

Asked whether or not he would consider a permanent switch to the Walkers in the future, Waghorn replied: 'I would. I am enjoying my time here and feel very much part of the team, but I'll just have to see what happens.'

Despite a red card in the 3-1 home defeat by Bristol City, Waghorn has proved to be a crowd favourite at Filbert Way this season, and both fans and manager alike will be delighted that the striker has extended his move until the summer.
