'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Blast From The Past

Nine years ago to the day, an unfamiliar name sat proud at the top of the English Premier League. Thierry Henry's first-half goal to sink Manchester United at Highbury meant it was Peter Taylor's unfashionable Leicester City who were leading the way after eight matches.

Leicester's bore draw at Sunderland had suddenly transformed itself into unlikely euphoria as news filtered through of the result from North London.

Premier League table: 1st October 2000

1. Leicester City --- 8 --- 16
2. Manchester United - 8 --- 15
3. Arsenal ----------- 8 --- 15
4. Newcastle --------- 8 --- 13

It didn't last long however, as Manchester United's crushing 3-0 victory over the Foxes in the next match saw Taylor's side dislodged permanently.

An eight match losing streak in the final stages of the season saw the side's season spiral into mediocrity immediately after the infamous F.A Cup quarter final exit at the hands of Lawrie Sanchez's Wycombe Wanderers at Filbert Street in March.
