Waghorn Deal Confirmed

Nigel Pearson has acted to bring in his first striker of the summer, tying up a deal to bring Sunderland forward Martyn Waghorn to the club until January.

Waghorn was close to agreeing a move to League One Carlisle before Leicester stepped in at the last minute to pluck the striker away from the Cumbrians' reach, much to the disappointment of manager Greg Abbott.

Waghorn, 19, is highly rated at the Stadium of Light, and made four first team appearances under Roy Keane under his tenure. Keane was quick to ring the praises of the youngster, predicting a 'long and successful career' ahead.

The player spent time on loan at Charlton Athletic last year, where he found the net just once in seven appearances as the Addicks were relegated.

Manager Nigel Pearson was understandably pleased to shore up his current striking problem by bringing Waghorn to the Walkers Stadium, saying: 'He has trained with us and did very well. He was on loan at Charlton last year and is someone who comes in and will have a positive effect.'.

The Foxes have also been boosted by the declaration that striker Matty Fryatt could be fit to face Swansea City in the first clash of the new Championship season tomorrow.

Yeah not a bad debut at all! Hopefully Sunderland don't want him back too soon!
