Leicester Transfer Watch: Week Three
A lot has happened in a week. We've had the usual rumours, as well as some interesting transfer developments along the way.
May 11th: Simon Gillett: - Recently relegated with Southampton, the midfielder cum-full back could be a departure from St.Mary's this summer. And, according to The Sun last week, ex-Southampton manager Pearson has tabs on the player . It was under Pearson in fact that Gillett forced his way into the Southampton first team.
May 12th: Richie Wellens: - If you believe the Daily Mail, Wellens was the subject of a failed £1m bid from Leicester last week. The midfielder has been a huge hit at Doncaster since joining from Oldham in 2007, and his form has allegedly led to circulating interest from the Foxes.
May 13th: Dany N'Guessan - Developments last Wednesday suggested that a deal for the young Lincoln midfielder was almost secured. Both Sky Sports and a reliable club source informed us that we had won the race to sign the player, but no strong update has been heard since. Lincoln chairman Steve Wright told press two days ago that a deal had not yet been struck, putting doubt into the move. However, our friends over at Vital Lincoln seem to believe that Milan Mandaric will be hoping to tie up the deal in the next few days, with N'Guessan very pleased with the terms on offer from Leicester.
May 13th: Simon Cox - On the same day, our source revealed that the Cox deal was around 80% complete. However, media speculation in the following days suggested that two bids had been rejected; one from ourselves, and the other from Celtic. Nothing more has been communicated since...
May 14th: Chris Weale - The Yeovil goalkeeper was the hero at the tail end of this season, scoring a last minute header against Hereford to hand the Glovers a huge lifeline for League One survival. Chairman Milan Mandaric has admitted that Weale is a summer target, saying 'He is one of the targets our goalkeeping coach has got. He's got very very big positive marks when we saw him, so he is one of our targets of course. It is no secret to our supporters, who we are quite open with, that we need a good goalkeeper.' May 18th: Liam Miller - The Irish Independent today suggests that the former Sunderland and Manchester United midfielder is being tracked by Preston, Nottingham Forest and ourselves. A player with a bad attitude, this is hopefully one to avoid.
