Fryatt Scoops Award

Leicester City forward Matty Fryatt has been rewarded for his fine form this season by being handed the League One player of the year award at the Football League Awards in London this evening.

The 23 year-old has scored 28 goals so far this season in all competitions, 23 of these coming in League One as Nigel Pearson's men have surged to the top of the table.

'I am obviously delighted to receive the award. It has been a great season for me to date, but it won't mean anything unless we achieve our goal of promotion.

However, I don't see this as an individual award. It reflects on the club as a whole and I was just simply there to pick it up on everyone's behalf - and that goes for the fans, players and staff.'

Fryatt signed a three and-a-half year deal with the Foxes earlier in the season on the back of successive hat-tricks against Dagenham and Redbridge and Southend United. He also became the first player in a Leicester shirt to score 20 goals before Christmas for 42 years, beating Derek Dougan's record.

I think, while he was a deserving winner, it's stupid handing out awards at this point in the season.
