Reserves not shamed at Chelsea
Second half goals by Carlton Cole and Jimmy Smith gave Chelsea Reserves a 2-0 win over Leicester City Reserves at Aldershot last night in a game watched by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
However, despite strong winds and rain condition Leicester gave Chelsea plenty to think about before finally capitulating.
Chris O'Grady, Elvis Hammond and Louis Dodds formed a strike force whose movement and goal threat was particularly uncomfortable for Chelsea defensive trio Robert Huth, Adrian Pettigrew and Jonas Elmer.
Indeed Leicester looked most likely to score in the first half with Elvis Hammond shooting over and a Louis Dodds free kick bringing an excellent save from Lenny Pidgeley.
Conrad Logan denied Carlton Cole at the other end before first Chris O'Grady with a near post effort and then Louis Dodds demanded further good work from Pidgeley.
In the second half, after another Hammond effort for Leicester, it was Carlton Cole who opened the scoring for Chelsea after 56 minutes from a James Simmonds pass.
This spurred the home side and although Logan did well to save from Elmer, Connor Franklin conceded an 83rd minute free kick from which Huth touched the ball on to scorer Jimmy Smith.
Leicester: Logan, Magunda, Franklin, Porter, Lycett, Norvall, Gradel, Dodds, O'Grady, Hammond, Hamill. Subs: Smedley, Pentley, Odhiambo, King, Wykes.
