Leicester booked a place in the 2nd round of the Northern Section of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after beating League Two rivals Hartlepool 3-0 at Victoria Park.
Steve Howard thought he had given the visitors an early lead, but his effort was ruled out as there had been an earlier foul. Andy King hit the post and Paul Dickov forced Arran Lee-Barrett into a good save as Leicester pushed for a goal. Hartlepool also had chances though with Leicester 'keeper Paul Henderson, albeit with little trouble, having to save three times from James Brown. Richard Barker and Sam Collins also had chances for the home side, but headed wide.
Early in the second half Leicester did take the lead when Howard (52) saw a shot trickle in and then midway through the half Nicky Adams (66) added a second. Victory was secured near the end when Matt Fryatt (87) had the simply task of tapping in.
