Leicester beaten by the odd goal in five

Leicester beaten by the odd goal in five

Leicester suffered a defeat against Birmingham at the Walkers Stadium on Tuesday night, falling to an injury time winner but impress nevertheless. A welcome bonus was a first start on English soil for Bulgarian international Aleksander Tunchev, with the final documentation he required to start his City career coming through on time.

City started the match brightly and went close several times, with Matty Fryatt grazing the post but it was Birmingham that took the lead. Paul Henderson had saved well but the ball fell kindly for Sebastien Larsson who had the simply task of taping home. City were level however 10 minutes later when Fryatt scored a spectacular 25-yarder after a neat one two.

City continued to push forward and impress in the second half and James Wesolowski, who had come on at half time, was guilty of missing a great chance with 20 minutes to play as he put his effort over with the goal at his mercy. Kevin Phillips made us pay for this as he headed home what looked like being the winner 12 minutes from time but in the dying minutes Levi Porter, who played the final 20 minutes, produced another fine City goal to level things up. A draw, which was the least City deserved, looked certain until Phillips broke away in injury time to score the winner.

Defeat was cruel on City but Nigel Pearson could have few complaints with what he saw as we again impressed by all accounts. Our next fixture sees us face another Championship side, Crystal Palace, at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
