'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Let's not ask the impossible

Leicester City Supporters Club chairman Cliff Ginnetta should be cloned because his optimism and belief in the cause should never be allowed to wane and die.

We have all been ecstatic over our extraordinary change of fortune since Rob Kelly and Mike Stowell took over the reins at City.

But the seven points we now stand clear of the relegation places is clearly no final frontier to Mr Ginnetta who tells the Blue Army website today: 'There are some people even talking of the play-offs.'

You have to presume he was meaning this season's play-offs and that the 'some people' were talking about Leicester City but I'm not sure Kelly, even at his most optimistic, would welcome that sort of pressure.

Leicester, with 36 points, are 19 points off the play-off places with 12 games to go. We can only amass 72 points in the extraordinary event or our winning every fixture.

Furthermore such an outcome would assume an alarming slump in form by the likes of Preston and Crystal Palace who currently occupy sixth and fifth places in the Championship.

No, lovely thought though a play-off place might be, staving of relegation is the realistic limit of our ambitions for this season.

Cliff is quite right that Kelly has given the whole club something to cheer about again, quite right to be optimistic about the future but in Kelly's own words, let's keep our feet on the floor and do first things first.

Rob Kelly is a manager not a magician.

Oh dear, Cliff the spliff been smoking again? Mid table mediocrity will do for me come May, or even where we are now. Exciting times ahead tough I think, paricularly if we can keep the ball on the ground!

Lets get this season out of the way first and leave thinking about the play-offs to next season.
